Editor’s note: I found this video to be engaging, largely factual and informative, but when the speaker concluded by advocating for nuclear energy I was deeply disappointed. Nuclear is not a solution. The only solution is to use vastly less energy than we use now.

How Much Mining to Power the World with Wind and Solar? - YouTube ← Click here for video.
Description:
It was known that replacing fossil fuels with wind and #solar energy would require more #mining, finally we have a study with estimates on exactly how much more, and the numbers are absolutely colossal. This episode is based entirely on a recent study from Simon Michaux of the Geological Survey of Finland. You can find the original report here: https://www.gtk.fi/en/research/time-t... I didn't realize that Decouple Media was a pro-nuclear advocacy organization when I posted this. And I really should have watched and listened to the end before posting it.
I'm definitely not a nuclear energy advocate! From now on I'll investigate further before posting anything. But maybe my error has a silver lining, in that it might open some conversation here about why nuclear isn't likely to be of any help to us.
