Making Good Ruins – Keynote at Climate Existence, Sigtuna, August 2023
Dougald Hine
From J.R.M.:
I’m going to have to listen to this two or three times.
As is generally the case, listening to Dougald Hine speak on the topics and themes of his book is, for me, like sitting under a cooling shade tree on a hot summer day. Beside the shade tree is a mountain stream emitting a cool, shady breeze. This is because Dougald speaks an urgently important — and true — message from within an urgently meaningful and true perspective. It’s a perspective too often neglected and avoided, and so it is a rare kind of message, unfortunately. So Dougald’s voice is soothing and cooling to those of us who have faced into the hot, drying wind of this long summer (often with too little shade), but who have done so mostly alone, because so few of us are yet gathering in this generous kind of shade.
A true message, even when it is painful to know of, can be a balm to hear spoken of with such a kind, gentle, patient and generous voice as Dougald’s.
Thank you; we share our gratitude for his perception. I will watch soon, and share the link.
