Video link: Police vs. Atlanta: The Battle Over Cop City - YouTube
Description: Atlanta is building a $90 million state-of-the-art police training facility that activists call “Cop City.” Major corporations like UPS, Home Depot and Delta Air Lines are investing millions of dollars into the project, financially pressuring politicians to push the plan forward. The Atlanta Police Foundation is one of the most powerful police foundations in the country. Forest defenders are occupying the forest by living in trees and destroying equipment to resist the building of the campus. The city calls them “domestic terrorists.” We take you inside the battle against “Cop City” as both the city and defenders refuse to back down.
Vigils for Tortuguita: Land Defenders Erupt in Solidarity, Resilience.org
Some might wonder about posting this here, but I consider it entirely relevant. Tortuguita was not only a land/forest/water defender but also a human rights defender. When Atlanta decodes to turn much of a forest into a massive police training facility, next to a black & brown community, against the wishes of most residents but following a major campaign by multinationals and the city's newspaper. i see it as prep for a police state. No government much of anywhere is acting to reduce the threats from climate change and biodiversity loss and dwindling resources for a still growing population. Seems like maybe the plan is to reserve the last resources for the elite, and repress the rest of us when we protest, or when we try to stop further damage (e.g. new fossil fuel projects).
