Not so long ago I announced that The R-Word was going into permanent archive, and explained that this was because the publication had largely trailed away from its original purpose, which was to stimulate public discussion of the necessity for revolution in our time — but not “revolution” as it is usually understood or conceived. It trailed away from this purpose because I saw little evidence for a widespread desire for imaginative and collaborative revisioning of revolution in non-violent terms.
But there is some chance that some self-declared “public revolutionaries” may be opening up the conversation I longed for when I started The R-Word. And I want to try and help this process to unfold.
These revolutionaries even have an upcoming online conference, here:
https://www.r21c.net/
And they have a YouTube channel.
Perhaps we can, then, dust off this old word and see if we can put it to proper use in the 21st century?
We shall see!
Meanwhile, The R-Word may turn out to be a useful vehicle for such inquiry and practice?
We shall see.
