Editor’s note:
I’d like to completely re-write the narration to this piece, beginning with … “Here we see a world stripped entirely of trees, animals, birds, plants, butterflies and frogs. Here there are no wild rivers, no wild mountains, no lakes or ponds or jungles….”
Description (excerpt):
“Although money plays a key role in our lives, the workings of our monetary system are a mystery to most of us. ‘The Waterworks of Money’ by cartographer Carlijn Kingma is an attempt to demystify the world of big finance. It visualizes the flow of money through our society, its hidden power made manifest.”
Money does not flow. It is channelled. Unlike natural flows, it cannot be cleared of debris and sediment accumulated over time. It cannot flow to where it is needed. As a systems thinker, I see it best avoided. Share your resources. Take needed service in exchange. Invest in shelter and local community well being, food and clean water supply. Set up share resource data bases and lending services. Return to in person connection.
